Pre-conference drinks September 5th

The Japanese local team has found a great place for the already legendary pre-conference drinks: HUB, British Pub near Sjinjuku station.

Check out their website. They even have Guinness 🙂

Be careful: There are four HUB’s near that station, be sure to go to the right one, here are the coordinates on OSM.

This is not a sponsored event so buy your fellow mappers a drink!

Hope to see you there September 5th, around 8pm!

We are very happy to announce that the first 200 registrants will get a free copy!

If you haven’t done it yet, make sure you register now!

Schedule will be released next week!

We’ve been working on selecting the best talks for SOTM12 and we’re almost ready to release the schedule. Visit the site again next week to have a look at the program!

Here’s a sneak peek on what to expect:

Since we’re in Japan it seemed right to have an entire day dedicated to Crisis related OpenStreetMap talks. Kinya Inoue, who himself is from Fukushima, will tell you about mapping before and after the tsunami, even about mapping radiation levels. Arlene Ducao will tell you about OpenIR, a web application offering geo-located infrared data as on-demand map layers. We will have Kate Chapman telling you about the achievements made by HOT, the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team and how you can participate.

But besides crisis response there’s tons of other stuff:

Ryan Peterson will talk about Traffic information on OSM. Tim Waters will talk about Addiction to OSM, also known as OCOSMD (Obsessive-Compulsive OpenStreetMap Disorder). There is a tech talk by Frederik Ramm on ‘Optimising the Mapnik/osm2pgsql Rendering Toolchain’. We have routing talks by Chine-hung Liu on Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City Bus Routing system and Dennis Luxen on routing with the daily planet.

For more talks keep F5-ing this website!

Call for Presentations extended!

We’ve already gotten some great proposals for talks on SOTM12 but we still have some more slots left. So the deadline is now extended until May 31st, submit your ideas through Call for Presentations. Don’t wait too long as space is filling up quickly!

Proposals submitted before our earlier deadline (April 30th) will get a confirmation this week and we hope to announce them on this blog next week so you can know what to expect.

What we’ve been up to…

You may wonder what the SOTM team is working on at the moment, so let me give you an update.

As you may have noticed, registration is now open, thanks for all who have registered already! You still have some time to get your ticket at early bird prices. If you are an OSMF member you will get an e-mail soon with details on the extra €10 discount. This means you can get a ticket for 3 days of OSM fun for only 75 euro!

The Call for Presentations deadline is approaching fast. If you submit your talk before the end of April you have a very good chance to get accepted. We will let you know in the first week of May and hope to start publishing some talks then.

Of course we’re always looking for new sponsors so have a look at our Sponsors page if you want to request our Sponsorship brochure.

The local team in Tokyo is working on the catering and looking into some excursions we would like to offer.

We’re also working on the Scholarship program for this year and hope to announce this very soon.

Hope to see you all in Tokyo!

We now also have a Facebook event page and in case you want to learn some Japanese, there’s also a Facebook group SotM 2012 Tokyo in Japanese.

‘Liking’ the Facebook pages will not get you into SOTM 2012 but there have been rumours that registration is about to open! So stay tuned!
